Installation & Care

Natural grasscloth wallcovering is a beautiful, textural material that requires thoughtful handling and professional installation.

Each roll is handmade from natural fibres, meaning subtle variations in colour, texture and weave are an inherent part of the product. These natural characteristics are what give grasscloth its depth, movement and quiet beauty.

Professional installation recommended

We strongly recommend that all grasscloth wallpaper is installed by an experienced professional wallpaper installer.

Grasscloth is installed differently to standard printed wallpaper. It does not pattern match, and the seams between panels are intentionally visible. A skilled installer will understand how to handle natural fibres, manage panel placement and achieve the best overall result.

Before installation, please ensure your installer has read and understood the instructions supplied with your order.

Before installation

All rolls should be inspected before hanging.

Please check that the product, colourway and quantity are correct, and that the rolls are suitable for installation. Natural variation between rolls and panels is expected, so rolls should be reviewed together before work begins.

We recommend planning the panel layout in advance, particularly for larger walls or rooms.

During installation

After the first three drops have been installed, please pause and inspect the result carefully.

If there are any concerns about the product, installation or overall appearance, installation should stop immediately and The Wallpaper Atelier should be contacted before proceeding further.

Claims cannot be accepted once more than three drops have been installed.

Natural variation & visible seams

Grasscloth is made from natural fibres and will show variation from panel to panel. This may include differences in tone, texture, slubbing, weave density and colour movement.

Panels are not designed to match perfectly. Visible seams are a defining feature of grasscloth and are part of its natural, handwoven appearance.

For this reason, grasscloth has a more organic and textural finish than conventional wallpaper.

Suitable areas

Grasscloth is best suited to dry interior spaces.

We do not recommend installing grasscloth in bathrooms, laundries or areas exposed to high humidity, moisture, steam or direct water contact.

It should also be kept away from areas where it may be repeatedly rubbed, splashed or exposed to heavy wear.

Care & maintenance

Grasscloth should be cared for gently.

To maintain the surface, lightly dust with a clean, dry, soft cloth or duster. Do not use water, cleaning sprays, detergents, sponges or abrasive cloths.

Grasscloth is not washable. Moisture or cleaning products may stain, mark or damage the natural fibres.

Important note

Because grasscloth is a handmade natural product, variations are not considered faults. These may include tonal differences, visible joins, irregularities in the weave and other natural fibre characteristics.

These qualities are part of the beauty of grasscloth and should be expected when selecting this material.
