Terms & Conditions

These Terms & Conditions apply to all purchases made from The Wallpaper Atelier, including wallpaper rolls, samples and any related products supplied by us.

By placing an order with The Wallpaper Atelier, you agree to the terms set out below.

1. About our products

The Wallpaper Atelier supplies natural grasscloth wallcoverings made from handwoven natural fibres.

Grasscloth is a natural, handmade product. Variations in colour, texture, weave, fibre, slubbing and panel appearance are inherent characteristics of the material and are not considered faults.

Grasscloth does not pattern match. Visible seams, panel variation and tonal movement from drop to drop are expected and form part of the natural beauty of the product.

2. Samples

Samples are provided as a guide to colour, texture and weave.

Due to the natural characteristics of grasscloth, samples may not represent the full range of variation that may appear across a complete roll, between rolls, or once installed across a wall.

Screen colours may also vary depending on your device, lighting and display settings. We recommend ordering a physical sample before purchasing wallpaper rolls.

3. Product information

We make every effort to ensure product descriptions, colours, pricing, availability and specifications are accurate.

However, minor differences may occur between images, samples, batches and finished rolls due to the natural materials and handmade production process.

Roll dimensions, product specifications and availability may be updated from time to time.

4. Pricing

All prices are listed in Australian dollars.

For retail customers, prices displayed on our website are inclusive of GST unless otherwise stated. Businesses in Australia generally need to display clear and accurate prices, and total prices should include applicable taxes such as GST when displayed to consumers.

Trade pricing, where offered, may be shown excluding GST and is subject to separate approval by The Wallpaper Atelier.

Delivery charges, if applicable, will be shown at checkout or quoted separately before the order is confirmed.

5. Orders

Orders are subject to acceptance by The Wallpaper Atelier.

Once an order has been placed and payment has been received, we will prepare the order for dispatch or collection, subject to stock availability.

We reserve the right to contact you if there is an issue with product availability, pricing, delivery details or order information.

6. Stock availability

We hold selected grasscloth wallcoverings in Australian inventory for faster supply.

While we make every effort to keep stock information accurate, availability is not guaranteed until your order has been confirmed.

If an item is unavailable after an order is placed, we will contact you to discuss available options, which may include waiting for restock, selecting an alternative product or receiving a refund for the unavailable item.

7. Custom orders

Custom orders may include special colours, materials, quantities or products not held in standard inventory.

Custom orders are subject to minimum order quantities, production lead times and separate written confirmation.

Once a custom order has been confirmed and production has commenced, it cannot usually be cancelled, changed or returned unless required by law.

Natural variation remains inherent in custom orders, including variation between samples, strike-offs, production runs and finished rolls.

8. Delivery

Orders are dispatched from our Melbourne warehouse unless otherwise advised.

Estimated delivery timeframes are provided as a guide only and may vary depending on destination, courier availability and other factors outside our control.

Risk in the goods passes to you once the order has been delivered to the address provided, unless otherwise required by law.

Please ensure your delivery details are correct. The Wallpaper Atelier is not responsible for delays or additional costs caused by incorrect or incomplete delivery information.

9. Inspection before installation

All rolls must be carefully inspected before installation.

Please check that the product, colourway, quantity and condition are correct. You should also ensure that all rolls are suitable for the intended installation area.

Natural variation should be reviewed before installation begins.

If you believe there is an issue with the product, you must contact The Wallpaper Atelier before any installation takes place.

10. Installation

Grasscloth must be installed by an experienced professional wallpaper installer.

Grasscloth is not installed in the same way as standard printed wallpaper. It requires careful handling, appropriate adhesive, proper wall preparation and an understanding of natural panel variation.

The Wallpaper Atelier is not responsible for installation issues caused by incorrect wall preparation, unsuitable adhesive, poor workmanship, moisture, environmental conditions, or failure to follow installation guidance.

11. Three-drop inspection rule

After the first three drops have been installed, installation must stop and the result must be inspected carefully.

If there are any concerns about the product, colour, appearance, installation or overall effect, installation must stop immediately and The Wallpaper Atelier must be contacted before proceeding.

Claims cannot be accepted once more than three drops have been installed, except where required by Australian Consumer Law.

The Wallpaper Atelier does not accept responsibility for labour, installation or other consequential costs where installation continues after a visible issue should reasonably have been identified.

12. Natural variation and visible seams

Grasscloth is designed to show natural variation.

The following characteristics are expected and are not considered defects:

  • visible seams between panels

  • panel-to-panel colour variation

  • roll-to-roll colour variation

  • variation from sample to finished roll

  • texture and weave irregularities

  • natural slubbing or fibre movement

  • tonal changes across the wall

  • minor differences caused by lighting, wall layout or installation direction

These characteristics are part of the nature of handmade grasscloth and should be considered before purchase and installation.

13. Suitable use

Grasscloth is suitable for dry interior spaces.

It is not recommended for bathrooms, laundries, wet areas, high-humidity areas, or spaces exposed to steam, splashing, moisture or direct water contact.

Grasscloth should also be avoided in areas where it may be subject to frequent rubbing, heavy wear, staining or impact.

The suitability of a product for a particular site should be assessed before ordering and installation.

14. Care and maintenance

Grasscloth should be cared for gently.

To clean, lightly dust with a dry, soft cloth or duster.

Do not use water, cleaning sprays, detergents, sponges, abrasive cloths or chemical cleaners.

Grasscloth is not washable. Moisture and cleaning products may stain, mark or damage the natural fibres.

15. Returns and refunds

Please choose carefully before placing your order.

Samples cannot be returned.

Wallpaper rolls may only be returned with prior written approval from The Wallpaper Atelier. Returned goods must be unopened, unused, undamaged and in their original packaging.

Delivery charges are generally non-refundable unless required by law.

Custom orders, special orders and made-to-order products cannot be returned or cancelled once confirmed, unless required by law.

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions excludes, restricts or modifies any rights you may have under Australian Consumer Law.

16. Damaged or incorrect items

If your order arrives damaged or incorrect, please contact The Wallpaper Atelier as soon as possible.

Please retain the product, packaging and delivery materials, and provide clear photographs of the issue.

We will assess the matter and, where appropriate, arrange a suitable remedy in accordance with your rights under Australian Consumer Law.

17. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, The Wallpaper Atelier is not liable for loss, damage, labour costs, installation costs, removal costs, reinstallation costs, delays, loss of profit or other consequential loss arising from:

  • incorrect installation

  • failure to inspect goods before installation

  • installation of more than three drops after an issue is visible

  • unsuitable site conditions

  • moisture, humidity or environmental exposure

  • normal natural variation in grasscloth

  • use of the product in an unsuitable area

  • failure to follow installation or care guidance

This clause does not limit any rights that cannot be excluded under Australian Consumer Law.

18. Trade customers

Trade access, trade pricing and trade discounts are offered at the discretion of The Wallpaper Atelier.

Trade pricing is confidential and must not be published, shared publicly or represented as retail pricing.

The Wallpaper Atelier may review, vary or withdraw trade access where we consider it appropriate, including where trade terms are misused.

19. Website content

All images, text, product names, descriptions, branding and website content are owned by or licensed to The Wallpaper Atelier.

They must not be copied, reproduced or used without prior written permission.
